How do I remodel my pool?

The pool is one of the most important features of your backyard, so it's worth taking time to consider what you want when it comes time to remodel. You can add a spa, change shapes or just give the whole thing a fresh coat of paint. No matter what style of pool you want, there are many ways to spruce up your backyard.

Before you begin your pool remodel, find out what the city requires in terms of permits.

It's a good idea to check with your local building department and get a permit before you start any remodeling project, especially if your pool is visible from the street. Some cities require that you get approval from them (or another city agency) before getting started.

If you're planning on doing any major work on your home or property, it's also wise to check with your insurance company to make sure they'll cover the cost of repairs if anything goes wrong during the project. Be sure to familiarize yourself first with all of the rules set forth by your homeowners' association (HOA). The HOA may have restrictions on what kind of renovations are allowed within its boundaries—and may even require approval before starting construction projects like this one!

Lastly, be sure to talk with both neighbors as well as utility companies such as gas lines, water lines and power lines that might be near or underfoot during construction so there aren't any surprises later when their equipment needs updating due to unforeseen damage caused by nearby digging activity

No matter what style of pool you want, you need to know what type of swimming pool will be the best fit in your backyard.

Before you can begin planning the perfect pool for your backyard, it's important to be aware of two things: the size of your yard and how much money you want to spend on remodeling. The size of your yard will determine what kind of swimming pool will fit best in it. For example, if you have a small backyard with limited space and water usage, then an above-ground pool might be more suitable for you than an inground one. If this is the case, look into getting a portable or above-ground model that won't take up too much room while still providing entertainment value (and possibly even exercise). Alternatively, if your yard is big enough and has room for both an inground and above-ground model at once (or even multiple types), then consider purchasing one or two each so that other family members can enjoy them too!

On top of knowing what kinds are available now though - which are all very different from each other depending on whether they're metal or vinyl coated steel etc.

Once you have a shape and size that fits your lot, decide on what type of material will work well with your budget and your backyard aesthetic.

There are many different types of pool shapes available. If you want something round or oval, this can be built out of concrete (also called gunite), fiberglass or vinyl liner. A rectangle shape is more likely to be built from concrete; however, it can also be made from fiberglass or vinyl liner if you want something cheaper than concrete but still sturdy enough for any weather condition. For kidney-shaped pools, however, there are no substitutes for solid materials like concrete because they offer the best durability in all kinds of weather conditions—and cost approximately $10 per square foot to build compared to less than $5 per square foot for the other materials listed above!

The next step is choosing the right size pool depending on how much space you have available on your property: small (3' deep x 8' x 4'), medium (5' deep x 12' x 6'), large (7' deep x 16' x 8') or extra large (9'-12'). You should also consider whether or not children will use these larger sizes so that they're not too overwhelming when being played around by active little ones! Finally make sure there's enough depth in between ground level where people stand while swimming versus where water ends up draining back into Earth's core after passing through filtration systems at either end before heading back down again next time someone takes a dip!

Add landscaping around the perimeter of the pool.

Landscaping around the perimeter of the pool is another top priority for most homeowners. Your new landscaping can be as simple as a rock wall or it can be more complex, like a waterfall that cascades from one side of the pool to the other. There are many options and it is best to have a professional help you decide what will work best in your backyard environment and with your budget.

Lighting is a key element in how a pool looks at night.

Lighting is a key element in how a pool looks at night. Lighting can be as simple as stringing lights along the edge of your deck, or it can be more complicated with an automated lighting system that turns on at dusk and off at dawn.

Lighting should always be installed by a professional because they are familiar with the most up-to-date safety guidelines, which vary greatly depending on where you live. In some areas it's illegal to use electrical wiring inside your home's foundation walls, so you'll need to consult with your local building inspector before beginning any remodeling project.

Lighting should not only highlight pools' features but also set the mood for parties or just relaxing after dark.

Other extras include safety features like alarms and fences.

Safety features are another important consideration. Fences and alarms are a must if you have children, but even if you don't, they can help keep your pool safe. Alarms will sound if the water level drops too low or if there's an opening in the fence. If you're considering a new pool or remodeling an existing one, safety should be at the forefront of your mind with every decision that you make.
